Rendell called the church members "insane."
ya think?! (A-holes, every self-righteous one of them)
last night, i had this misfortune of listening to people in other christian faiths use the amish event to promote recruitment of their own church in faith.
i saw ministers on television saying how these amish people showed the love of christ, and how these people showed how much people in christ church were so loving and forgiving.
making a point to mention that the amish people were forgiving the man who did this.
Rendell called the church members "insane."
ya think?! (A-holes, every self-righteous one of them)
i'm moving on.
i want to express my gratitude to members here who have steered me right when my own compass was stuck.
i know i didn't put much effort into becoming friends with many of you and i'm sure that i'm the loser for it.
Adios..... come back and visit us when you can.....
recently sent some photos to jimmy newquist of caroline's spine, taken when we were at taste of madison.
he liked them and actually put one of them on his website.
yeah.
Nice photo....very professional looking.
seriously, where have you gone man?
i don't like what the mods do either sometimes, but just ignore it and try to keep your head down.
for what it is worth i read your review post about the book before it was deleted - and it prompted me, despite my prior reservations, to buy the book.
Ditto !
heres a little something i was wondering about and would like your opinions, .
miracles, can they occur , for instance you have cancer and pray to god and the cancer is gone etc.
i dont believe any man can heal you ( faith healers ), for i believe only god or jesus can heal you through your faith.
bttt (just for the heck of it)
joel rosenburg was on tv a few minutes ago talking about eisenhower's background.
he mentioned that his father left the religion after the end of the world did not happen in 1914 and that his mother continued.
then he mentioned that when he was sworn into office, he had his hands on a bible published by jehovah's witnesses.
Eisenhower's mother, Ida Elizabeth (Stover), died in 1946 at the age of 84. Eisenhower was sworn in in 1952. As is common with most Presidents, they use their family Bible (rare to have those, nowdays), so whatever bible his mother gave him, it pre-dated 1946. She herself had a very interesting life. the following is a short BIO:
IDA STOVER EISENHOWER
The war in Europe was over. General Dwight D. Eisenhower was returning to a hero's welcome in his hometown. A reporter asked his mother if she wasn't proud of her son. "Which one?" she asked.
Ida Stover Eisenhower was proud of all her sons. All six who reached maturity--the fifth son, Paul, died of diphtheria in infancy--were successful and respected in their chosen careers. This extraordinary family from "the wrong side of the tracks: in Abilene, Kansas had produced a banker, Arthur; a lawyer, Edgar; a famous soldier soon to be President of the United States, Dwight; a druggist, Roy; and engineer and journalist, Earl; and a college president, Milton. But much of Ida Stover Eisenhower's life had been extraordinary.
She was born May 1, 1862, the only daughter of Elizabeth Ida Link and Simon P. Stover, at Mt. Sidney, Virginia, with the Civil War raging all around her. Her mother died when Ida was five. She and her brothers were sent to live with various relatives in the area. Ida's guardians felt that most of her time should be spent attending baking and household chores. She did have time to memorize 1,365 verses of the Bible in six months in a competition and win the prize, a medal she always cherished. From that time on she had a ready scripture to quote in any situation, After her father died in 1873, she and her brothers would take long horseback rides and stop in the woods to talk about their plans for using the inheritance they would each receive at age 21 to settle in Kansas. Ida wanted to go to college, but her guardian did not feel that even high school was necessary for a girl. So at age 15 she ran away. She located a place to work for her room and board so she could go to school.
Ida finished high school at 19, taught for two years, collected her inheritance, and joined a Mennonite caravan to Kansas to meet her brothers who had gone on ahead and who had assured her that the newly-founded Lane University in Lecompton would accept girls. At Lane Ida met David Eisenhower and on September 23, 1885, they were married in the college chapel. Both ended their college education at that point in order to begin their lives together.
Because of their modest financial circumstances, and because the Eisenhowers had no daughters, each of the sons born to David and Ida were expected to contribute to the housework and cooking as well as perform more traditional boys' chores. Dwight attributed his and his brothers' character development in large part to the fact that they were needed, that each had responsible work to do. He said that their mother was the "greatest personal influence' in the sons' lives. She passed on to them her independence, desire for education, respect for hard work, belief in self-discipline, and her good humor. She believed that each person should be free to choose his own way, and never interfered with their choices, not even with Dwight's career as a professional soldier although she was a lifelong pacifist.
In 1945 she was named Kansas Mother of the Year and was also selected American Mother of the Year but deemed it unwise to travel to New York City to receive the award and allowed the honor to go to another.
Ida Stover Eisenhower died on September 11, 1946, at age 84, having been a widow for four years.
Of her, Dwight wrote:
Many such persons of her faith, selflessness, and boundless consideration of others have been called saintly. She was that--but above all she was a worker, an administrator, a teacher and guide, a truly wonderful woman.

wouldn't you like to see them be tremendously successful in the next few years.... who knows, gas could tumble to 5 cents a gallon (wishful thinking? )
so, i'd been invited to a jw 'friends' house this evening, but before i went, i went out with some work mates, something i've been doing a bit more of recently.
i told him i'd be home about 7.30 and for him to phone me after that time when he wants me to come round, so i get back about that time, popped onto jwd, whilst awaiting my phone call, got nothing, so i phoned him up a few minutes ago, and he told me that he'd discussed it with the others, and since i've been going out with worldly people so much, they want me to stop that association before they let me start associating with them again!
i'm really fucking angry here now!
Tell your JW 'friends' that you can't help but feel that they have STUMBLED you with regards to not following the inclusionary example of Christ.....(tsk, tsk,...so sad). I've never been a JW, but my JW friend always makes the point that they don't judge people...only Jehovah can read the hearts of men and do that. Sounds like they've not only judged you, but hung you out to dry...
take care..... live life..... you only get ONE....
i have a problem.. we just moved to plano, texas, where we know no one.
my son just started kindergarten.
now, plano isd is one of those school districts that gets a large amount of funding through high test scores and through high property values.
Having volunteered recently in a kindergarten class for a few months, I would suggest the following:
Most classes have a workbook that pages are pulled out throughout the year for 'homework' weekly. Ask the teacher if you could take home the workbook for a weekend so that you could go through it to get a sense of what is down the road, that way you'll be ahead of the game.
The homework is usually given on Monday and is due on Friday. Realistically, it can all be done within 20 minutes sitting at the table. Break it down in two nights (or do it all at once) and get it all done Mon/Tues or Wed. evening to be able to take it back Thursday. That way there's no pressure....it's really easy.
Ask the teacher what is expected of the student by the end of the year. Here in California the kids were expected to be able to count to one hundred and identify the numbers 1 - 100, know the alphabet and each letter's sound, recognize and identify shapes - square, circle, triangle, rectangle, etc., simple adding and subtracting, identifying colors, and the biggy (drumroll please.....) TYING their shoes. It might sound like a lot (sounds like first and second grade when I went to school), but it really isn't since this is the beginning of the year. If needed, a child can catch up fairly easy at this time of year. Just work with him each day.... when you're in the car, start a counting game. On the fridge, put the shapes with colors and constantly quiz them (make it fun). Take pennies, or use your fingers and start with each hand doing simple adding, then later subtracting..... "if I have two fingers on this hand, and I have one finger on this hand, how many fingers do I have all together?".... then let them count, etc.
Working each day with one or two categories of learning will bring them up to speed and take them beyond what is expected.
Piece of cake when broken down daily....don't sweat it.... it can be a fun time for the two of you.

Amazing story.....thanks.
The power of the mind enfused by faith is a mystery that manifests itself in many ways, some positive.
well said.
